On December 1st, the critically-acclaimed Reel People and UK soul stalwart Omar’s collaborative single ‘Outta Love’ hits the shops, with brand new remixes from Alix Alvarez and IG Culture.
Despite the title and lyrical content, ‘Outta Love’ feels defiantly upbeat, with its dancehall-eque beat, lush strings and rich production. Add Omar’s fresh vocal tone, and ‘Outta Love’ sounds both modern and classic.
Bronx resident Alix Alvarez delivers his stripped back ‘SOLE Channel’ remix which carries the vocals along on punchy beats, with a track that gets deeper and more musical, adding melancholic chords as it progresses. Also present is a remix instrumental, (vocal) dub and dub instrumental. Alvarez made his name engineering for house heroes Masters At Work and has also remixed Amy Winehouse’s ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’.
Broken beat lynchpin and Roots Manuva producer IG Culture takes the track in an abstract direction, maintaining the original’s drum pattern, upping the tempo and adding his trademark bleepy bass. The ‘Bruk For The Love Refit’ builds the tension and dancefloor pressure, eventually opening out into a verse, before rolling out to the end. The ‘InterOutta Dub’ piles on more drums, and does what dubs do.
Also available as part of the digital single package is 4 Hero’s bossa nova remix in full vocal, instrumental and dub incarnations. The former of which was recently released on ‘Seven Ways To Wonder – The Remixes’ and featured top grade versions by the likes of Dennis Ferrer, Karizma, Jon Cutler, and Kyoto Jazz Massive.
Testament to the strength of the sophomore album ‘Seven Ways To Wonder’, ‘Outta Love’ is the forth single from that source, following on from ‘Alibi’, ‘Upside’ and ‘Amazing’.
